The collection deals exclusively with Frear's professional life, his work in the chemistry of foods and with the chemistry of soils and fertilizers. It includes his work as chairman of the Federal-State Joint Committee on Definitions and Standards; chemist for the Pennsylvania Bureau of Foods and Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture; president of the Association of Official Agricultural Chemists; chairman of the National Pure Food and Drug Congress; and his role in drafting state and federal Pure Food Laws.
